In a significant move towards technological self-reliance, Xiaomi introduced its first in-house mobile processor, the Xring O1, on Thursday, according to a new report from Bloomberg<\/em>. This development positions the Chinese tech giant to compete directly with its rivals like Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek.<\/p>\n

The Xring O1 is manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 3nm system-on-chip (SoC), Xiaomi’s first self-developed flagship SoC built on a 3 nm process. It has 19 billion transistors and a 10-core CPU architecture. It includes two high-performance Arm Cortex-X925 cores that clock at 3.9GHz.<\/p>\n

The Tech Behind<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Complementing this is a 16-core Immortalis-G925 GPU, designed to deliver top-tier graphics performance. Xiaomi claims the chip achieves 3 million points on AnTuTu benchmarks, indicating robust power efficiency and processing capabilities.<\/p>\n

This chip will debut in Xiaomi’s latest devices, the 15S Pro smartphone and the Pad 7 Ultra tablet, marking the company’s entry into the high-performance chipset arena.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also want to become one of the top chipmakers, with our phones targeting iPhones, can our chips also be compared against those of Apple’s?\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n

While Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, acknowledged that the Xring chip falls short of Apple’s chipset in certain areas, such as processor speed, he emphasized that it represents a significant milestone for Xiaomi\u2019s young chip design team.<\/p>\n

Long Journey Till Here<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Lei Jun announced a decade-long investment plan to advance chip development by investing 200 billion yuan ($27.8 billion) in research and development over the next five years. This initiative aims to reduce Xiaomi\u2019s dependence on external suppliers such as Qualcomm and MediaTek, supporting China\u2019s broader strategy for semiconductor self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n
