Google is taking Chrome far beyond being \u201cjust a browser.\u201d In what the company calls the biggest upgrade to Chrome in its history, Google is rolling out a host of new artificial intelligence (AI) features designed to make browsing smarter, safer, and more productive.<\/p>\n
The changes center around Gemini, Google\u2019s flagship AI model, which is now deeply integrated into Chrome across desktop and mobile. The updates aim to turn Chrome from a simple browser into a true AI assistant, helping users understand complex webpages, block scams, streamline daily tasks, and stay safe online, while still keeping user control and privacy at the forefront.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s a closer look at the 10 new AI-powered features coming to Chrome.<\/p>\n
1. Gemini in Chrome<\/strong><\/p>\n Mac and Windows desktop users in the U.S. (with their language set to English) will now be able to access Gemini in Chrome to clarify complex information on any webpage (or webpages). Gemini will also be made available in Google Workspace (e.g., Gmail, Docs, Drive, etc.) with enterprise-level privacy and security controls in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n Additionally, Gemini is also coming to Chrome on Android and iOS in the U.S. On Android, you can activate Gemini not just in Chrome but in other apps too \u2014 by holding the power button. On iOS, Gemini will soon be built directly into the Chrome app.<\/p>\n 2. Your New Agentic Browsing Assistant<\/strong><\/p>\n Coming in the next few months, Gemini will gain agentic capabilities that will essentially act as a hands-on assistant on your behalf, like booking appointments or ordering groceries. Just tell Gemini, and it will handle the clicks and forms for you. Importantly, you can pause or stop the assistant at any time, ensuring your control over Gemini never slips away.<\/p>\n 3. Smarter Tab Management<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Gemini in Chrome can now summarize and consolidate details across multiple tabs, like flights, hotels, and activities, into a neat travel plan. Basically, it acts like a smart assistant that organizes info spread across different websites, saving you from switching back and forth.<\/p>\n 4. Smarter Recall Of Past Sites<\/strong><\/p>\n Gemini in Chrome will soon be able to act like a smart memory for your browsing. Simply ask Chrome to find that site you saw last week \u2014 even if you don\u2019t remember the URL. It will search your history intelligently and bring the right page back instantly.<\/p>\n 5. Deeper Google App Integration<\/strong><\/p>\n Chrome is now tightly connected with other Google apps like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps, so you don\u2019t have to keep switching tabs. Contextual suggestions are available in the U.S. in English and will be rolling out to more countries and languages soon.<\/p>\n 8. Stronger Scam Protection With Gemini Nano<\/strong><\/p>\n Google is strengthening Chrome\u2019s defenses with Gemini Nano, its lightweight AI model, to detect fake virus alerts, scam giveaways, and other online scams. The browser already uses Gemini Nano in Safe Browsing\u2019s Enhanced Protection mode to catch tech-support fraud.
