{"id":96650,"date":"2021-05-02T00:43:28","date_gmt":"2021-05-01T19:13:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.techworm.net\/?p=96650"},"modified":"2021-05-02T00:43:28","modified_gmt":"2021-05-01T19:13:28","slug":"linux-mint-18-x-end-of-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.techworm.net\/2021\/05\/linux-mint-18-x-end-of-life.html","title":{"rendered":"Linux Mint 18.x Hits End Of Life, Users Should Upgrade Now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Clement Lefebvre, head of the Linux Mint project, announced in the monthly newsletter (April 2021) that the Linux Mint 18.x series has reached EOL (End of Life).<\/p>\n<p>Announced in June 2016, Linux Mint 18.x series follows the pattern set by the 17.x series, by using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS as a base.<\/p>\n<p>After 5 good years of service, Linux Mint 18, 18.1, 18.2, and 18.3 has now reached EOL this month and will no be longer supported with security or software updates.<\/p>\n<p>If you are running one of these releases, your operating system will continue to work but you will no longer receive security updates from the repositories, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.linuxmint.com\/?p=4054\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">says Clement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Users are recommended to back up their data and perform a fresh installation of Linux Mint 20.1, which is supported until 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, users can upgrade to Linux Mint 19.3 which is supported until 2023:<\/p>\n<p>According to Clement, the minor upgrades (18-&gt;18.3, 19-&gt;19.3) are quite simple, easy, and fast.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the upgrade from 18.3 to 19 is a major upgrade, as it is longer and more complicated.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, users are recommended to take their time with this one and not hesitate to seek assistance within the community, in the chat room, or on the forums.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Clement Lefebvre, head of the Linux Mint project, announced in the monthly newsletter (April 2021) that the Linux Mint 18.x series has reached EOL (End of Life).
